carb cutting. how bad can it really be?

So I'm guessing you , or some one you know has at some point tried to or sucsesfully cut carbs out of your diet right? As a society for years we have been told a quick and easy way to lose weight is to simply cut Carbs out of our diet and some carbs in particular always seem to be top of this list for carb cutting. I'm going to tell you why that is total rubbish.

To learn why we shouldn't  cut carbs we need to know why our body needs carbs in the first place, so why does are body need carbs ?
Carbs are a great scourge of glucose energy and it is the first source of energy our body will pull from , we need carbs to function on a day to day basis. With out carbs in our diet we will lose focus , become lethargic among many other things and with no carbs in our body to produce glucose our body will need to pull energy from somewhere els. That place is proteins , with no carbs to fuel your body you will be forcing yourself to pull energy from protein. Protein is what builds repairs and maintains muscle. If like me you go to the gym to stay lean and build muscle you don't want to lose all that hard work just because your afraid to eat carbs. Carbs also produce something called glycogen that gets stored in the muscles and provides fuel for your muscles in a work out or just in daily activities.

Carbs are one of three main macronutrients needed for a healthy balanced diet. starchy high fiber carbs sutch as whole grain bread (yes that's right you can eat bread) or pasta ,gram for gram have less calories than fat. By replacing high sugar and high fat foods with starchy carb based prod ucts you can lower the calorie amount in you're diet so yes in fact carbs can be used to lose weight!

By cutting carbs and depriving your body of energy not only could you risk your body "eating away" at your muscles you can also force you're body  to store fat as a last resort energy reserve. This means you might be losing weight on the scales if your losing muscle (because muscle weighs more then fat) but you will be GAINING and storing fat.

I hope this little bit of info has helped some of you understand why we need carbs and how they can aid in weight and fat loss. Don't be afraid of carbs ,your body will thank you for having them belive me.
